MBIE | Granny Flats Technical Videos
Below are a series of videos illustrating how we would approach the “Granny Flats” video series using a mix of 2D/3D graphic animation integrated with bespoke B-Roll and stock/existing footage.
The final design for these videos would be informed by the brand guidelines set by The MBIE and the art direction of creative team.
Graphically integrated B-Roll
For SDG Skills we produced a series of videos were we needed to integrate stock footage into explainer videos in an engaging way. We used their brand design language of “circle” and “pill” shapes to place to footage within, along with a mix of graphics-over-footage and full-screen graphics for information heavy sections. To keep visual energy high, we employed a kinetic animation style to have constant movement onscreen.
Information heavy sections
For full screen, information heavy sections we use beautifully design 2D graphics and employ the same kinetic style to animate the specific information eg: numbers, graphs in a similar way to this Sea Cleaners example.
B-Roll Style
For the B-Roll we would use a mix of cinema camera and drone footage (where possible) to illustrate the videos stories. This video we produced for Erksine Owen is a good example of the style and variety of shots we would capture.
3D Animation
For the sections such as where an existing house is shown and the granny flat appears in the back yard, we would either use 2D animated line drawings, which keeps it in line with the look of technical drawing plans or if time/budget allows a more detailed render of the site similar to what Grand Designs use.
